College Students Fellowship Program

Elite virtue-anchored leadership programs for college students that provide opportunities for democratic conversation, networking, and mentoring.

Overview

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Fellows Program offers college students and legislative staffers virtue-anchored leadership programs that employ mentoring, leadership training workshops, public service projects, training in civil dialogue and bipartisan cooperation, and learning opportunities via seminars, lectures, and panel discussions. We especially stress the ability to work across differences and to engage in ethical decision-making.

Student Testimonials

"The Gerald R. Ford Leadership Forum has been one of the most impactful programs of my undergraduate experience at the University of Michigan. As Founder and Co-President of our Chapter, I have had invaluable opportunities for professional growth, including engaging with esteemed speakers such as First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, the families of Presidents Ford and Carter, and retired diplomats and ambassadors.

Our Chapter has also led meaningful initiatives, including hosting the nonprofit Justice Indeed in collaboration with University of Michigan Law Professors. Through this effort, members helped identify and transcribe over 10,000 racially restrictive covenants in Washtenaw County, underscoring our commitment to community betterment.

Additionally, publishing research as an undergraduate in the Ford Forum Observer and receiving recognition from RealClear Public Affairs’ American Civics section has been transformative. It has been an honor to work alongside the Ford Presidential Foundation and build the University of Michigan’s premier public policy student organization from the ground up. I am excited to see what the future holds!" Allison Tate, Co-President of the University of Michigan Chapter

"The Ford Fellows Program has given me the opportunity to discuss ideas of leadership with my peers from a multitude of backgrounds. We've had the privilege of speaking to community members on the same paths that we ourselves look to follow. Most importantly, the program has allowed me to build new relationships and broaden my perspective. It has been an honor to be part of this program in its early stages, and I look forward to seeing it develop for future students.” Casey Anderson, graduated Fellow from the Hope College Chapter

“Nothing in life is more important than the ability to communicate effectively.”
